“Drug Abuse in the Workplace"

Mark Giuffre, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration


This presentation identifies risks associated with employee/customer drug abuse in the workplace and examines strategies for mitigating those risks. In addition, Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) Giuffre will discuss the financial impacts to businesses, employee vulnerability to exploitation, employee abuses by industry, the scope of abuse, and impairment at work.

ASAC Mark Giuffre is assigned to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in Chicago where he directs narcotics and financial investigations of transnational criminal organizations. With his team, he orchestrated a successful investigation resulting in the conviction of leading Sinaloa Cartel financial operatives and a $1.8 billion forfeiture order.

ASAC Giuffre has a Masters Degree from Michigan State University, is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), and Certified Protection Professional (CPP). ASAC Giuffre is recognized in U.S. District Courts as an expert witness on drugs of abuse, narcotics trafficking and money laundering. He has provided training to federal, tribal, state, local, and foreign criminal investigators and prosecutors, state court judges, foreign court judges, the U.S. Department of State, the FBI Academy, banking compliance professionals, and businesses. ASAC Giuffre has been a Special Agent for 30 years assigned to offices in Illinois, Indiana, Washington D.C. and Thailand.
